Joselyne Kendall

Hi, I’m Joselyne Kendall—a wife, mom of three, and Frisco local for almost 16 years (originally a Utah girl at heart!). I may be a little shy at first, but put me at a mahjong table and I light right up. This game has brought me so many new friends, laughs, and “aha!” moments, and I’d love to share that with you, too. Whether it’s a girls’ night, ministry night, or corporate event, I’ve got you covered for a memorable time of learning and play. As a proud ambassador for The Mahjong Line, I’d be thrilled to help you host your next mahjong night—so reach out and let’s make it happen!

Tell us why you love Mahjong?
I love mahjong because it’s so much more than just a game—it’s connection, laughter, and a little friendly competition all rolled into one. Every time I sit at the table, I get to meet new people, watch friendships form, and see that spark when someone “gets it” for the first time. Teaching and playing has brought me out of my shell, and it’s given me a way to share joy and create community. Plus, no two games are ever the same—there’s always something new to learn, which keeps it exciting!
What is your favorite mahjong memory?
My first dead hand was one for the books—equal parts memorable and slightly embarrassing. I knew exactly what I was doing, but got a little too caught up trying to outsmart my friends at the table. Let’s just say I got ahead of myself, the tiles didn’t agree, and the lighthearted teasing that followed was well deserved. But hey—that’s mahjong! Always learning, always laughing, and always ready for the next hand.
What is your favorite mahjong tile?
I really enjoy the Winds & Dragons category—mostly because, when I’m teaching, my students can’t wait to get rid of them. They’re always the first tiles tossed, which cracks me up every time. And when I’m playing? I secretly love it, because it makes pivoting into Winds & Dragons lines so easy… everyone else is practically handing me my hand one discard at a time! Hands down my favorite Tiles are the Cheeky tiles, I love the whimsical theme and explaining soap to my beginners makes it easy to understand!
What makes you laugh?
What makes me laugh? Honestly, the occasionally juvenile dad joke gets me every time—I can’t help it. Add in some good observational humor, and I’m already giggling. I Love Lucy will never get old for me (comedy gold!), and shows like Seinfeld, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Office are my go-to laugh therapy. Basically, if it’s witty, awkward, or a little ridiculous, I’m here for it.
One thing you can't live without.
One thing I can’t live without? Well, the obvious answer is playing or teaching mahjong—but that feels like a loaded question, lol. Beyond the tiles, it’s hibachi dinners, my family, my friends, and my faith that keep me grounded. Throw in some crafting projects and maybe a few too many mahjong tile sets (is there really such a thing as too many?), and you’ve got me pretty much covered.
Motto for life
My motto? “I’m here for it”—all of it, the laughs, the lessons, the wins, and even the oops.
What would you sing on Karaoke night?
What would I sing on karaoke night? Trust me—you don’t want me near a microphone unless you’re ready for a tone-deaf wannabe opera singer dramatically belting out random show tunes. It’s less “Broadway” and more “please make it stop”… but hey, I’m committed! 😂
What Mahjong Line set is your favorite to play on?
The Cheeky Santa Monica, Whimsical and Easy to play with
The person, alive or dead, you would love to have at your dinner party.
If I could invite anyone to a dinner party, it would hands-down be Lucille Ball. I Love Lucy is my favorite show of all time—it never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it. I’ve even gone down the rabbit hole with documentaries about her, and she just seems like such a fascinating study on life, humor, and resilience. Plus, can you imagine the stories she’d tell at the table? I’d be laughing so hard, I’d probably forget to eat!
