There is a symbiotic relationship between American mahjong and philanthropy. From the very beginning, in 1937, the clever group of Jewish women in NYC responsible for standardizing the rules of American Mahjong ensured that philanthropy was at the heart of the game. This mentality and culture has been sustained for almost ninety years by the mahjong community, oftentimes by the players themselves through fundraisers, tournaments, and giving campaigns. We want to formalize this as part of the mission of The Big Card.
As a customer of The Big Card, you will know where your dollars are going. The charitable contribution per card is stated and verified. For every purchase made through The Mahjong Line website, we will donate 30% to charity for every card sold. In 2026, we will partner with four charities, rotating each quarter. We will audit our sales through a third party and will be transparent in our donations. We are honoring the mission begun by the female pioneers in 1937. We are excited for what we, the American Mahjong community, can accomplish together.

Make-A-Wish is on a mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.
The Mahjong Line gives back 30% of every purchased card to Make-A-Wish.

They raise and distribute more than $2 billion annually and through planned giving and endowment programs to build flourishing Jewish communities at home, in Israel, and around the world.
